*Fungal blood culture collection -

In adults the optimum volume of blood to be cultured for maximal isolation of pathogens is 30-40ml. It is recommended to collect a minimum of 2 sets (each set consisting of 2 bottles) from different venipuncture sites for optimum isolation and interpretation. Each bottle should be inoculated with 10ml of blood. Single bottle is NOT recommended. In the pediatric age group, follow standard guidelines recommending optimum volume blood based on body weight and age.
